Hothead Games is an 200-person game development studio focused on free-to-play for iOS and Android devices. Millions of people play our games and this generates large amounts of data. Transforming this data to make it both meaningful and actionable is a key priority at Hothead.

We are seeking an ambitious and experienced data scientist to develop advanced data models and analysis methods to assist in optimizing the performance of our games. As the perfect candidate for the position, you have the deep understanding, training and experience in advanced data analysis techniques to further the state-of-the-art at Hothead. You excel at solving problems, transforming abstract questions into data models, queries, tests and simulations that deliver measurable outcomes in the financial performance of our games.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identify new areas of inquiry in the field of data analysis and data modelling that will assist with the company’s game performance and business goals
  • Design new models, algorithms and techniques for data analysis, implement them and ensure they are correctly integrated into the games
  • Establish and communicate best practices for analytics-related processes in the company
  • Answer specific data-related questions from internal stakeholders (producers, game designers, marketing, etc.)
  • Explore existing game data to discover useful findings that can be used to improve game financial performance
  • Advise data analysts on best practices for solving more complex analysis problems
  • Educate internal stakeholders on best practices in data analysis and test formulation

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Demonstrated competence in statistics, probability and other relevant areas of mathematics
  • Experience with Big Data and using a map-reduce paradigm to perform data analysis
  • Experience with multiple programming languages, particularly in the context of data analysis
  • Fluency with database query languages like SQL with a demonstrated ability to author complex queries
  • Strong in critical-thinking skills and problem solving
  • Familiarity with free-to-play game design concepts and industry-standard KPIs used to measure game performance

Bonus Points

  • Experience with the following 3rd party tools and platforms: Tableau, Swrve, Kochava, AWS
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, particularly CouchDB and Redis
